Jillian Blackwell was born in Texas, and her life and artistic career have taken her to many places across the country from Philadelphia to San Francisco to Denver to Detroit. Blackwell’s artwork concerns the peripheral and essential. Through her work, she asks: What are the things that travel with the things that carry meaning, how can we know them, and what is their significance?

Blackwell earned her MFA in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a BA in Fine Arts with a Concentration in Ceramics. She is a writer and Editorial Coordinator for DARIA Art Magazine. She founded Passageway Gallery in Bloomfield Hills, MI in 2022. Blackwell currently works as an artist, curator, and art handler.
