Jillian Blackwell was born in Texas, and she currently works and resides in Detroit, Michigan. Blackwell’s artwork concerns the peripheral and essential. Through her work, she asks: What are the things that travel with the things that carry meaning, how can we know them, and what is their significance?

Blackwell earned her MFA in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a BA in Fine Arts with a Concentration in Ceramics. She is a writer and Editorial Coordinator for DARIA Art Magazine. She currently runs Chore Gallery, a project space situated in a cabinet inside the kitchen of her studio apartment. Blackwell is an artist, curator, and art handler.
