Jillian Blackwell was born in Texas, and her life and artistic career have taken her to many places across the country from Philadelphia to San Francisco to Denver to Detroit. Blackwell’s artwork concerns the peripheral and essential. Through her work, she asks: What are the things that travel with the things that carry meaning, how can we know them, and what is their significance?

In 2012, Blackwell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, earning a BA in Fine Arts with a Concentration in Ceramics. She is a writer and Editorial Coordinator for DARIA Art Magazine. She founded of Passageway Gallery in Bloomfield Hills, MI in 2022. In May 2024, Blackwell earned her MFA in Painting from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Blackwell currently works as an artist, curator, and art handler.
